Sometimes people are looking for something original from Grass Valley, Nevada City or Nevada County at large, but don’t really have the time to go mooching around all the shops or visiting street fairs such as Cornish Christmas or Victorian Christmas. Well some of the local artisans have discovered a web based outlet for their work in the form of Etsy.com (http://www.etsy.com).
While walking through Grass Valley for Cornish Christmas I was taking in some of the Christmas window displays in some of the stores and some of the neon signs that illuminate Grass Valley at night. A couple of days later I returned in the middle of the night to find the streets deserted, and the downtown lights warming the cold air with their glow.
Notable highlights included the neon signs of the Del Oro Theater, the Packard carpet and vinyl company and the Nevada Club. Shop windows that caught my eye included Yuba Blue, the Red Crow gallery and the Teezme clothing company. Yuba Blue can always be counted on for a good display because of the way they paint the window glass giving it a translucent colorful glow.
So we had some rain overnight in Grass Valley, but it did not seem to dampen anyone’s spirits this morning when parents and children descended on downtown Grass Valley for some same trick or treating in Mill and Main Street. A bravo to all the Grass Valley merchants who took part in this event, and especially to the ones who went all out and dressed in costumes!

The tree at the front of Hennessy School is putting on an amazing show, and providing visitors entering downtown Grass Valley from the freeway with a very colorful welcome. Meanwhile, driving along Race Street from Memorial Park to South Auburn one is treated with an explosion of fall color in the treetops.
